Grammar held a prominent position among the Arabic sciences, serving as a means of safeguarding the language from error in the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet, and the speech of the Arabs. However, a thorough understanding of grammatical rules is incomplete without comprehending the underlying principles upon which those rules are based. These principles represent the deeper dimensions of grammar and reveal the reasons that led the Arabs to construct their linguistic structures in a particular way. Understanding the causes gives the student a critical faculty that makes him more aware of linguistic developments and grammatical differences, which frees him from rigidity and deepens his understanding of the language. The pillars in grammar are the elements without which the structure cannot exist, such as the subject with the verb, and the topic with the predicate.
