Abstract

This research presents an analytical study of the linguistic concepts and historical semantics of the administrative term as it appears in Al-Fīrūzābādī’s Al-Qāmūs al-Muḥīṭ, one of the most prominent classical lexicons that has preserved a rich linguistic and administrative heritage reflecting the structure of Arab-Islamic thought in the Middle Ages. The study aims to trace the uses of administrative-oriented vocabulary in the lexicon, analyze their linguistic meanings, and examine their historical and social contexts in order to reveal the extent of the development of Arab administrative thought and the diversity of the terminology associated with it. It also seeks to clarify Al-Fīrūzābādī’s method in presenting administrative terms and the relationship between the original linguistic meaning of a term and the functional meaning it acquired over time.
