Abstract

Nizar Qabani's "My Story with Poetry" is labeled as a literary autobiography through which the poet traces back his journey from his early childhood until becoming a pioneering poet, employing a skillfully crafted style of narration. This autobiography points out the influences of historical events in shaping literary texts as it deals with pivotal issues in his life such as the death of his sister, the 1967 defeat, his cultural visions, and other political transformations. The poet does not only recount his personal life; rather, he blends self reflection with poetic vision, transforming his individual experience to reflect the interests of a complete generation. The suicide of his sister motivated him to advocate women's issues, while the defeat of 1967 marked a turning point in his political poetry. The research is based on historical and descriptive approaches to uncover the narrative elements within the autobiography. The study is classified into two sections: the first section investigates the character and the event, while the second explores place and time, highlighting the role of Damascene environment in historical and literary documentations. The study concluded that the poet transforms his personal life into a vivid story of a general humanistic mode, blending life and art in a creative and contemplative style.
